Day 20

For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in Heaven and Earth is named, that He would grant you, according tot he riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height- to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Ephesians 3:14-19
Paul begins here with an appeal tot eh Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the source of all fatherhood in Heaven and on Earth. This is a power-packed phrase, because it settles for us the reality that our true Father is God Himself, and that we were not brought forth out of mere human process or desire, but by the will of God. In understanding this, we echo what John states in his gospel that we are those "who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God (John 1:13).
This is a most important understanding for us to focus on in prayer. You exist because of the desire of God, not because there was a human interaction between a man and a woman. Regardless of your life history, whether you have had the most horrible or the most wonderful background, the reason you are alive is because God desired you and has caused you to come into relationship with Him for His express pleasure and purpose. Ask the Holy Spirit to open your understanding to this reality, that He desires and loves you in the perfection of His fatherly heart.
Prayer: Father of glory, send You Spirit to me today and help me. I long to know the kind of love that You have for me, a love that is beyond my comprehension without the help of Your Spirit. Thank You for loving me more than I can understand, and strengthen me to understand. Thank You, Lord
